Designing a Global Careers Event: Leveraging Collaboration to Foster Student Career Readiness
1:10 PM – 1:30 PM • 20 Minute Runtime • Room 209
Representatives from a variety of campus units at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will describe the design, implementation, and key takeaways of “Becoming a Global Panther: An International Careers Event”, a campus-wide multifaceted event that included skill building stations, a study abroad fair, a facilitated panel, and networking. The goal of the event was to develop 21st Century career skills that students can grow through experiential and global learning. One key takeaway the presenters will describe is the impact of intra-campus collaboration between a variety of offices and departments. In times of scarce resources, collaboration not only pools existing financial support, it also fosters a community of practice that expands the reach to both students and community campus partners. The presenters will also highlight the multifaceted nature of the event and how that design supported student engagement. Participants will leave the session being able to design and plan a similar career event with multiple campus and off campus stakeholders. Participants will gain insight on how to facilitate genuine conversations and engagement between alumni and current students that focus on global careers and skills. Participants will also gain tips and insights into how to collaborate with community partners to create networking opportunities during career focused events.
