Position title: Assistant Professor of Sport Management, Howard University
Jason Perry is currently an Assistant Professor of Sport Management in the Department of Health, Human Performance, & Leisure Studies at Howard University. Dr. Perry received his Bachelors of Science degree in Sport Management from Winston-Salem State University, a Masters of Science in Sport Studies from High Point University, and his Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership and Management with a concentration in Athletic Administration from Drexel University.
Formerly, Perry served as the Chair of the Sport Management Department at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, NC. He is a passionate educator who strives to engage students both inside and outside of the classroom. As a professor, he aims to prepare the next generation of sport administrators for successful careers in the field by exposing them to new professional experiences. Through his contributions in higher education, he was recognized by his alma mater, Winston-Salem State as a 40 Under 40 Honoree in 2018. His research has been presented at national conferences and has been published in international journals.
His research interests include experiential learning in sports, Esports management, HBCU sport management curriculum, and diversity in sport administration. Dr. Perry is an active member in his community and enjoys coaching and organizing youth sports. In 2020 he found the Esports Team at Howard University and launched initiatives aimed at growing Esports at his University. The team won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Esports Championship in its inaugural season in fall 2021. In 2022, Dr. Perry was named a finalist in the TeamWork Online Favorite Sport Management Professor Award. He is an advocate of historically black colleges and universities(HBCU) and spends time speaking with young people about the great opportunity that these institutions provide.
